Science communication

Many people still don't know that there is such a thing as linguistics - and that it can be very interesting and lots of fun to explore language.

To spread the love of linguistics, I engange in LingComm (= linguistics communication) and try to make my my research available to the general public in simple words. I mainly do so via my podcast, my YouTube channel, press releases and interviews (see below).

If you are  journalist and would like to ask me questions about language, linguistics or my own research, feel free to get in touch.

Podcast

The aim of the podcast Linguistics Behind the Scenes is to communicate my linguistic research to a general audience in a fun and entertaining way. My American co-host Dominic Piazza and I have light-hearted conversations about anything that has to do with language and linguistics – a truly mixed bag! Through a range of fun facts and personal stories, we explore everything from pop culture and history to chatbots and social conventions, with each episode usually centred around my research. There are complete transcripts for all episodes, and most of the research articles discussed in the podcast can be read for free online by following the links in the episode descriptions.

YouTube

On my YouTube channel, you can find videos summarising my research and explaining how the different software developed by me and my team works.

Press releases

In my press releases, I try to explain the most important results of my recent research in a simple and condensed way.

Interviews

I am very happy to explain my research in interviews, e.g. in newspapers, magazines or on the radio. I have given various interviews in English and German so far (e.g. on several BBC radio programmes and on Times Radio).
