Semantics and Pragmatics

  Content   This course deals with the meanings of words and other linguistic elements form a variety of perspectives:
What is meaning?
How can it be described? 
Are there any rules that govern conversation? etc.
      The course will also address questions of how language is used in different contexts:
What happens when sentences are uttered in particular situations? 
Are there any rules that govern conversation? etc.
      You will gain an insight into the most famous semantic and pragmatic theories and models, such as the semiotic triangle, prototype theory or speech act theory.
  Material   You will find digital material online in my password-protected StudOn area for this course.

In order to be able to access the material for this particular course, you will first need to register with a password that I will give you during the first meeting.
